Accessibility Statement

SWC is committed to making joinswc.org and our digital nutrition programs usable by everyone, regardless of ability. Here's where we stand and how to reach us if something isn't working for you.

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time fix

Starr Wellness Collective (SWC) believes nutrition education should be available to everyone. We continually review joinswc.org and our masterclass platform for accessibility barriers and work to resolve them as we find them.

1
Section One

Our Commitment

SWC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to democratize wellness education — particularly for families, students, and communities who are often underserved. That mission only works if our website and programs are actually usable by the people we're trying to reach.

We're committed to providing a digital experience that is accessible to the widest possible audience, including people who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, screen magnification, captions, or other assistive technology, regardless of ability or disability.

Accessibility Is Part of Our Mission, Not an Afterthought

As we build out new pages, masterclass modules, and tools, we evaluate them against accessibility best practices before launch — not just after someone reports a problem.

2
Section Two

Conformance Standard

In Progress Toward Full Conformance

SWC uses the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA as our target standard. These guidelines are published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and more usable for everyone.

We are actively working toward full conformance across joinswc.org and our masterclass platform. Because our site is still evolving — new blog content, new program pages, and new masterclass modules are added regularly — full conformance is an ongoing process rather than a single completed milestone.

Section Four

Video & Program Accessibility

Our Adult, Family & Teen, and College Nutrition Masterclasses are delivered primarily through video hosted on YouTube (@JoinSWC) and embedded directly into the SWC platform.

  • YouTube's built-in closed captioning is available on masterclass videos and can be turned on using the video player's caption ("CC") control.
  • We are working to review and correct auto-generated captions for accuracy across all published modules.
  • Downloadable companion PDFs (cheat sheets, habit coaching programs, and workbooks) are provided as an additional, text-based way to access program content alongside the videos.
Need an Alternative Format?

If a captioned or text-based version of a specific module would help you access our content and it isn't currently available, contact us at [email protected] and we'll work with you directly.

Section Five

Third-Party Tools

joinswc.org relies on a number of third-party platforms to deliver our programs, including YouTube (video hosting), PayPal (payment processing), Kit.com (email), Zeffy (donations and payments), and Canva (design assets). Each of these platforms maintains its own accessibility standards and features, which are outside of SWC\'s direct control.

We choose vendors that have made public accessibility commitments where possible, and we welcome feedback if a third-party tool embedded on our site creates a barrier for you.

6
Section Six

Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, some parts of joinswc.org may not yet be fully accessible. Known limitations we are actively addressing include:

  • Some older blog articles and PDF resources were created before our current accessibility review process and may not be fully screen-reader optimized;
  • Auto-generated video captions may occasionally contain errors, particularly for nutrition-specific terminology;
  • Some interactive elements on the masterclass platform (such as the module progress tracker) are still being tested for full compatibility with assistive technology.

We prioritize fixes based on severity and how many people are affected. If a limitation is preventing you from accessing content you need, please let us know — we will find another way to get you that information.

7
Section Seven

Compatible Assistive Technology

joinswc.org is designed to work with commonly used assistive technologies, including:

  • Screen readers such as VoiceOver (macOS/iOS), NVDA, and JAWS (Windows);
  • Screen magnification software;
  • Speech recognition and voice control software;
  • Keyboard-only navigation without a mouse or trackpad.

If you use assistive technology not listed here and encounter difficulty using our site, we want to hear about it — your report helps us test and improve compatibility going forward.

Section Eight

Feedback & Contact

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of joinswc.org. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, have trouble accessing any content, or need program materials in an alternative format, please reach out — we aim to respond within a reasonable timeframe and work with you toward a solution.
